She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

About the shipathon, I'll gladly pay shipping since I have nothing to give in return. All mine are still too young to lay just yet. Like I said, I may have Nankin eggs but not positive about that yet. But yes, I seriously have NO problem paying shipping. I just want to get a little more experience under my belt with hatching and don't know how much more the hubby will pay for eggs, lol. I'm not going to be picky about what I'll hatch either. Beggers can't be chosers.

Oh, I do have to say one thing for anyone wanting my Am's, Cream Legbars or Sulmtalers... I do have a prior standing order that has to be sent at various times, usually I get a 3 week notice or so, but things can change last minute... usually I can send whenever, but if it happens to come up I may need to change times if it conflicts... sorry...

Flighty as in nervous? No... just like other ducks they like their routines and schedules though... flighty as in fly really well? Absolutely!

Call ducks are very loud, boys are quieter... noise isn't an issue here though... :D

I know someone with Cayugas, I can ask if they're louder compared to Rouens/KC/Pekins...

I hear stories about people who cant get ducks in the coop because they are on the roof or in the trees. Noise isn't a big issue, I live on 10 acres of hardwoods and have vacant parcels on 3 sides. I like the peace & quiet lol

Is your plan to just whine and

your way to a dozen?

My Calls are all imprinted, they come when I call them... :D

All ducks can be trained, just takes time and commitment... Calls are my fave, noiser but much less messy, lol...

Nah, just keep scaring the crap outta him... he might send you some out of fear... :lau

That header should say "There's more than one way to open a window"

I have no experience with shipped eggs. Is that what it does to air cells? I've never seen uneven lines like that
That's why they call them "saddle cells".

If you want the Cream Legbar eggs for your Thanksgiving HAL, just let me know... I'm willing to send early... oh, mine lay blue, 1 lays greenish, and 1 lays super saturated blue/green...

I recently heard a discussion on the meaning of 'flighty'... it was said that means extremely nervous and easily spooked... so no, mine aren't flighty... at least they're not like quail, lol...
They aren't super friendly, snuggly chickens but they are fine with you walking into the pen, etc... they jump if startled, but not spastic... roo is calm and respectful too... I think a lot is in how they're raised...
OH gave me the green light for turkeys, so yep...
smile.png

Mostly I have to stick to our current breeds though, as we cannot add any more different ones... we're working on expanding for our current stock for separate lines, etc...

Ok, I'll give you some more research to do then... look up the 24hr auction chat thread, read the entire thing... a lot of people put comments on there about sellers rather than giving the person a review on their profile... there are good and bad on bith BYC and ebay... some BYCers sell on ebay also... look at pics and read everything they say... if it includes faults and sounds honest those are good indicators... if it sounds too good to be true, then that's generally the case...
I know... was messing with you...

For the cost, I'd say skip it... those are knly as good as they are utilized... if packed right, they are great... if not, they are just as horrible as tossing eggs in an empty box... bubble wrap and shavings is much cheaper and works great as long as the eggs are secure but not smooshed...
Sounds like good timing, I can do early, lol...
smile.png

Oz used to send them to people mailing him eggs, but like I said, I think some didn't pack them right... I sent Oz 30 eggs from TN to CA in bubble wrap and shavings... all 30 eggs made it to the Philes in great condition and he made no complaints... and those weren't even packed as well as I prefer cuz we had to emergency overnight them when his flight changed, lol...
You're correct... I received an entire box of scrambled and broken eggs shipped in that foam recently... whole batch was a bust...
hmm.png

I wasn't gonna quote your multi-quote, lol... yes, it is like free advertising and I have no issues sending out a couple boxes free... but if I send 5 or 6 or so, shipping costs add up... don't know if I'll be able to afford that so I may offer some extra batches for ship cost, if you think that'd be ok???
Just wait til you have people wanting 'perfect, sky blue' Am eggs...
hmm.png

You'll get them to hatch, don't worry... and mutt ducks is an offer... those are good to start with if someone wants to try ducks to see if they want to keep raising them...
smile.png
I think that is more than reasonable. I already made a connection for the ship a thon and offered to pay for the eggs and the shipping. Not that she'll listen....

I think paying for the shipping is fair seeing as the eggs are being "donated". It's still an awesome deal to be able to add to your flock and get the experience both in hatching shipped eggs and recieving them.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what the humidity should be for these little guys tomorrow? I've heard anywhere from 60 to 70 %.
I always say if you're hands off, go 65% if you are like me, go 75%. I remove my chicks during hatch, clean out the shells and flip pippers back over. If I feel it's needed I will also help. I have never lost a pipper/zipper-yet, knock on wood and thank God.

I've had eggs shipped to me in cartons that did well and some not so well... personally, I don't like balled up paper as a packing insulator... leaves too much air space for the carton to shift around in...
Some pics are doctored, some is just lighting... I don't believe any pic can really show accurate egg color... I have 2 pics I'll post later to show you... eggs can get a good, pretty blue, but a true Robin's Egg blue is beyond expectations in my opinion... if there's a greenish tint, the blue comes out better as the laying cycle goes on...
Too much emphasis is put on egg color... type is way more important and egg color is last to worry about... my favorite saying is 'You gotta build the barn before you paint it'... blue eggs are doable, but depending on stock and introducing new blood, etc, can take generations to perfect...

Amen sister!! LOL I had a dozen of my green eggs all nice and washed for pick up yesterday, and wanted a pic cause, they are nice and big and good looking.... yeah, I gave up. I don't have a professional camera nor photographic education and could not capture the color for nothing!

I'd love to be part of the ship-a-thon (and the ship-a-thin--these last 5-10 pounds have been lingering for over a year now--the first 20 went much faster...) but I'd definitely have to pay shipping. Of course, my swap with Ravyn comes first, once Frieda goes broody again (I can do supplemental lighting or heating pad brooder in the coop, not both--and I just set up the lights yesterday). Though if anyone needs giant zucchini now, I could certainly send some now and then take eggs later ;) Seriously, my husband just picked about 30 pounds today, and there's at least that much already in the house waiting to be shredded and frozen, and we've probably eaten 40 pounds' worth... Tom replanted some hills that the chickens dug up this spring, and, since I hadn't marked them, I think I know why I'm not seeing as much acorn squash as I could've sworn I'd planted...

Another question. Do you guys worry about turning eggs while you are waiting to get enough to set? Seems like I read Walnut post once that she doesn't worry about it, but I can't remember for sure.
My last set was just plucked out of my egg basket. I did not turn them, or do anything to them, other than choosing the "roundest ones". It was my best hatch ever, in spite of having high humidity prior to lock down. I hatched in cartons to compensate for that.

However, if my eggs were going to be more than a week old, I think I'd rotate them, and try to control humidity and temp.
