I use a little of this in all my waterers, a tip I learned from Oz, and it keeps all algae and slime growth to nothing... didn't scrub waterers all summer long... I also put a little in the duck pools and it keeps them from going stagnant or algae so you can go longer between changes if need be...

I need this! We have 1 large & 1 smaller pool and if it doesnt get cleaned or rinced every day or other it gets nasty! I definitely need to find this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I realize I'll need to scrub it. I was just worried about chemicals, since they drink it too. I didn't scrub it last night because I started late, but I'll order some of this for next time. My pool is 5'x5' square and 14" deep, so it holds 250-300 gallons of water. I clean it maybe once a month. I'll have to figure out how much of that stuff to use.
I love it cuz it's a supplement, not a chemical... and safe for drinking water... lots of people say ACV in water, but I don't like it stripping out good gut bacteria... and others say a bit of bleach and that just makes my skin crawl... It doesn't have to be exact for it to just keep away the algae and yuck, so I'd say about 2 tblspn full of it in some warm water to dissolve and dump in as you fill... Btw, I want your pool!! lol...

If my OH does the pools, I have a nasty cleaning job in a couple days... he likes to just stick the hose in until it clears up... with this in the water, even at the end of the week the water is mucky but not stinky at all... Oh, and it will look like a slightly iridescent film across the top when the water is still, but that's what copper does so don't worry about that... much better than a slimy green pool cover, lol...

Apparently this stuff is also good for treating turkeys for blackhead. I'm still researching, but if it will help the algae growth, and is safe for the birds, then I will try it.

I found the pool at Rural King on sale for like $29! I figured if it lasted this year, that would be fine. It has done a lot better than I expected. I draped a piece of carpet over the side and put a cinder block inside, and some stones outside for them to climb in and out. They figured it out in no time! Now they climb in, but they fly out! Not sure what it will do over the winter, but I will find another one just like it next year, or whenever this one gives out, because it has worked out so well. And it fits nicely in that little corner of their run.

Great score... gonna keep my eyes open for something like that... :)

It would be so nice to have an egg swap here. There is one on Facebook for Michigan but it is a SWAP and if the person you want to get eggs from doesn't want what you have, you are SOL.

One thing that may help is a "credits" system. For instance, my mutt chicken eggs are worth 1 credit per egg. Purebred RIR, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Silkie or other pure bred common breeds could be 2 credits. Specialty chickens like LO, BCM, CL, real AM could be 3 credits. 4 credits for BLRW, Tolbunt Polish, or other hard to get variants. Ayam Cemani or some of the other really out there breeds more credits. Credits could also be assigned a dollar value, so that people who want eggs early in the season can get them in the incubator before their own birds start laying.

Essentially, each contributor could post the credit value of what they have, and another contributor could bid to accept them either by using cash equivalent or trade credits. Then the original contributor could select from all the available eggs to obtain what they want using the credits from the first transaction. That way someone who has and wants turkeys could trade with someone who has turkeys and wants ducks.

A credit system would allow people who get many dozens of eggs a day to trade with people who have a flock of 6 mixed chickens, or mixed ducks and turkeys, etc. It would let someone who has 50 RIR to swap eggs to get some BLRW, because someone else may want RIR. And it would help keep eggs affordable, as overpriced eggs won't have many takers.

This may be WAY too much work for a ship-a-thon but wouldn't it be nice to be able to trade with little cash changing hands and with a trade counter to track credits earned and spent?
That's a very interesting system. I am looking forward to watching everyone hatch each other's eggs. I can't handle any more chickens, except for the ones that I mention every day

, so I'm just going to send out a few dozen, then sit back and watch

I am really interested in learning how to pack for best results too!

Unless they are from Ravyn.

That's the main reason I wanted to do this, and will be trying to reproduce the pics Ravyn posted. The shavings look to be just the ticket

Im waiting to see if and how my BCM grow up (the rest are fine so far) and I'm working on something special for my SLW but it's not set in stone yet.

ETA: I am planning on a AM swap first thing.

We know, we know....

I would LOVE some BCM eggs!

I have "BCM", but if you have kept up with this thread you know that my flock has issues. I hope to be correcting that during the shipathon

I wonder of you could make it a separate article and submit it to the learning center. Then people cold refer to it as necessary.

Great idea

thanks... and thanks for having me here...

Dunno, never looked into that... is hard since I am 100% phone based, lol...
Or maybe not...

Egg color pic comparison... each pair of these pics is same exact set of eggs just different lighting, flash or no flash, etc... no photoshop or enhancement of color...

And...

And...

And last...

That's interesting, and I have noticed my pictures turn out much differently depending on lighting. I don't even have a decent camera, so all of my ad pics are shot with the Iphone. The most accurate pics seem to be taken outside in the sunlight

Eh, I think he's still in shock after I wrote so darn much ;)

I am, but I was also honored that you took the time to write all that

That's what happens when he complains too much...
