She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Thank you, everyone. I really did panic for a minute. Nothing like looking at pips and then seeing the temp is 75 and blowing cold air, to make your heart stop for a minute. We put so much into these eggs for 3 weeks, it's hard to think of going so far and then loosing them. I'm happy to report I've got another pip!! So 5 external pips, and 1 internal. One of the 5 pipped the wrong end but is active and peeping! Thanks for the support!!

No, it's the mini. The part where you connect the cord, from the incubator to the wall is loose. I was messing with it and I have a little piece of folded cardboard under it, to keep it tight and the temp has come back up. It needs to be sent in and fix. I don't want to even mess with them right now, so they are all in my second mini...it's going to be cramped in there once they start hatching but that's ok. And at least I know what the issue is and have it stable, God forbid something happened and I needed it. Thank you!

Sounds great! You've been my rock throughout this batch! Thank you!

HI.

and the thread.

So, my Spitzhauben is still sitting and yelling at anyone who looks at her. My Jap banty is holding strong going into day 17. I do so hope her three eggs hatch. She's done so good sitting and pampering and getting pushed off by the others- but she always comes back to take over. The nice thing is I have a unit study slated for animal life cycles for science for later in the year. The plan was to look at the life cycles of an animal from each group (reptile/bird/mammal/insect/fish) and study it. So since we have a broody I moved up part of that study so we can use it for science and get the bonus of comparing the differences between a natural broody and articficial icubation, so even though I really didn't want a broody, it is a bonus if it is successful.

First, I think it's good that her first batch is small. Being a mom is hard enough the first time, manage having a dozen chicks to look after compared to 2 or 3?! It will be great practice for her. And at least she's staying warm and dry, this weather is the pits! Second, how cool is that about your science lesson! I offered both my sons teachers anything I can give them if they want to do a lesson on it. I hope they take me up on it, come spring! I think kids learn the best when it's hands on and something tangible that they can see and touch.

Thank you. .I can imagine if you didn't have the extra incubator. .what can you do.. cardboard box with a heatlamp?

That's what I was thinking. I have 2 chicks in the brooder right now, they would of had to share with the eggs! I don't know what I would have done about humidity. Plus it's really cold here today. Only 66 in the house!

There ya go! Everything happens for a reason, even when we haven't a clue what that reason could be.

That and with her being a banty and the eggs are standard, they are going to get big fast and I don't think she'd be able to cover more than 2 or 3 to keep them warm. It wouldn't be much of an issue in the spring/summer, but it's gotten awful chilly here! So hopefully with no more than three she'll be able to keep them warm until they are big enough.
I think a teacher that has the opportunity to do a classroom hatch and doesn't is crazy.
I know it's about 65F in here today. I'm trying not to use the pellet stove during the day and just run it evening to morning. I was hoping we wouldn't have to run it 24/7 until Novemeber or at least closer to November, but I am not seeing that happening....lol

It's been alot cooler down south the past couple of days. Love having the door open and not having to use the ac. It will start warming up again on Monday. Looking forward to lower electric bills.

10-4 on the pellet stove.
We heat w/wood, & I considered firing up the stove this morning myself, but the chimney hasn't been cleaned out from last season yet. I normally clean it out in Oct. & again during the Jan. thaw (if we have one), but I've got a balance issue going on currently, with occasional black-outs, & I don't want to risk a problem while I'm on the roof. Guy from church was supposed to come do it for me this week, before monsoon season set in. I had to put the electric space heater in service for a couple hours.
