She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So, Lady Grey skipped laying yesterday... this morn, she left 2!!!

That really really distinct chipmunk stripped right in the middle is really cool. The one to the right is also.

Chipmunk was an Old English Game Bantam pullet. I finally found a forever home for all the bantams a couple of weeks ago. They don't fit my flock profile, the laying hens wanted to kill them, and they were hock high to the turkeys so they stayed on high roosts all day and only came down to eat after the turkeys went to roost.

That's great!
Thanks to you and the others who helped. I put some tape on the toe tonight but I'm thinking it and the other one might have it off my morning, lol.

Still no external pips but I think the 1, or 1's, that internally pipped did so late last night or early this morning so they'll probably pip tonight while I'm sleeping, so here's hoping that I'll wake up to some pips or zips or...

... hatched, healthy, happy chicks!! I also found a clean egg carton and cut it down and swapped them in to that real quick. The TP rolls were a little too tall and they would've pipped right where the egg was touching the rolls.

I'm so excited for you. If you can, would you mind posting a picture of how you cut the carton down? I think I'm going to use a carton this time.

My second broody, the spitzhauben that has 2 developing eggs under her hit day 18 today so when I locked up for the night and did coop duties I snuck a peak and both are internally pipped high up in the air cell. She will not let me move her to the kennel, which concerns me because she has been sitting in the "chosen" nesting place of all the hens and gets pushed off daily for others to lay. I will be keeping a close eye on things tomorrow. Hopefully after seeing how aggressive she was with me when I tried to move her tonight she will be less inclined to let anyone move her tomorrow.

for you

You asked for photos, here are some older siblings of those eggs:

As babies. Super fuzzy faces!

I love the hairdo on the one in the back. There are a couple of bantam chicks in there, ignore those.

It sucks being small, especially around giants! I'd stay as high as I could too...lol

I will post pics as soon as all these little boogers vacate it, lol! I just cut the top off and then cut the bottom of the cups out

ETA: I'm kind of wishing I had cut the bottoms out a little higher, these eggs are like medium sized and the carton is like a large or jumbo size so the eggs are in the cups a little too low and they're leaning a little :/

Can you block off the nesting box just until the chicks hatch with some chicken wire? Then after they hatch you could move her and the babies.

My hens (pullets actually) refuse the nesting boxes and have one spot against the wall that they ALL prefer to lay. The eggs stay clean and I know where they are, so I've let them. Next spring I am redoing the nesting boxes and going to attempt once more to get them to use them. I do plan on moving her to the kennel once they hatch-thought about trying again tomorrow since moving her at night didn't work but I don't know. Maybe I'll go back out and try. My original girls in my first coop were/are the same way. They would only use one nesting box and all 8 would lay there.
