She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Surprising to see some of you not a fan of using Candle wax, I have used it from day one to hatching day. I've also tried the Liquid bandaid, Not a fan of it, to many chemicals that seems to kill the embryo's off at an early stage.. candle wax, actually seals it it..
Ohhh that liquid bandage stings on a deep cut!! lol I tried wax on an egg once. It was like day 3 or 4. I don't know how the egg got cracked, but it quit a couple days later.

Spice is still fighting... fluids and food are giving more strength... still gotta see if she'll be able to overcome the damage though...

Ruby, Lacrystol would be your best bet for asking advice and help on those Call eggs... much better than me...

I'm just not a fan of putting anything on eggs at all... if it's gonna seep, it's gonna be an issue... personally, I just see if it makes it or not... I do enough assisting and give myself headaches over the Calls, lol...

Well the Candle wax is great for sealing the egg back up, if the egg is seeping and all depends on what it is seeping, it would be useless.

For instance, if the egg dropped and the yolk cracked opened, the wax is not going to do anything for the egg. it's a total lost. But if the egg dropped and there's a tiny spill of blood, then yes, it would do some good to keep bacteria out and help close up the tiny vein that cause the bleeding, so that it can finish the process.
However, if the egg dropped and it hit the main vein, well again total lost.

But for hair line cracks, it's great to keep bacteria out doing any further damage to the embryo.. The extra bonus to all this, it does make it a LOT easier for the baby to escape. LOL.. Now depending how much damage has been done, covering the entire egg with wax is definitely NOT recommended, it should ONLY be used for cracks and only on the cracks.. Because the egg has to have air circulating in and out otherwise the success rate will not be good. if the entire egg is covered it's not going to get the sufficant air amount.

When using the wax it has to be a certain type. I like to use the tealites, other waxes have chemicals in them, such as those with perfumes, some even have an oil, this is not good because the oils only keep the wax from harding there for it's totally useless, the main idea when using the wax is to having it harden up and seal those cracks back up and you only need a little bit, not a blob of it.. i usually candle them before and after to make sure all cracks or completely covered.

LOL, I have used it for eggs that the shell was COMPLETELY indented. OUCH.. this egg hit the ground kind of hard. GRRR me... You want to always leave the shell on, can't put the wax on if there's no shell..

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. At the time I could only find a yellow one so I figured there was a chance the dye in it wasn't a good thing....lol

Chica good luck with your hen

Starting date 21 of my hatch. So far we have had 34 out of 39 hatch.

Lots of cheeping in the house

Thanks. It turns out that after getting the calcium gluconate, I figured I should examine her properly prior to administration of the calcium. No egg felt. So after further examination, we have narrowed the problem down to an injury to her right upper thigh. It was painful on gentle manipulation. So she had 1/2 a baby aspirin instead. 1 hour later she managed to weight bear on that leg and turn around. I am hopeful. She is still panting though. I think it may be from the stress and pain. At least I will have the calcium on hand just in case. Looks like you are having a marvelous hatch.
