She sure fooled me! A freeloader for almost 44 weeks FINALLY lays an egg.

Oh no! Hope I don't have to wait this long. I have a banty Welsummer who is 28 weeks old! She needs to start paying rent! :) Are welsummers typically late bloomers?

Mine usually start around 24 weeks. Not too bad normally. But this one is just stubborn.

You want to wait forever to get an egg, try a barnevelder. They'll drive you bonkers with the wait.

My 2 welsummers started laying about 21 weeks and layed most every day. For some reason they have stopped in the last few weeks even though their coopmates keep laying. I love those dark brown eggs so much that I had ordered 2 more plus 2 barnevelders for spring--hopefully that wasn't a mistake.

I love my barnies - definitely not a mistake. But they do make you wait forever for that first egg!
