Shed to coop conversion

Maybe a dumb question but whats the difference between a return vent and a gable vent?
Location.
Yes, location...and configuration, size and shape in general, size of louvers, etc.

A 'return' vent is meant to be used in a forced air heating system, it's where the return air comes out of the room and goes back the the furnace via the return air ducts.

A 'gable' vent goes in the gable of a building near the peak, allows passive air movement for an attic of a ceilinged and insulated building or heat escape from an open building such as your shed.

I agree, I was just thinking of alternate ways that might be within the skill set of the OP.
Yes, can take quite a bit to make a static window operable, removing the trim stops etc...but sure don't want easy infiltration of rain into coop in the PNW.

I agree, I wonder if the OP lives on the dry side of the hill or the wet side...

I live in Spokane, its not that bad. The little screened window thats on the shed currently does not let that much rain in so it should work out. The other side of the shed where I want to put in another window is also protected from my neighbors shed which is about the same height as mine and is about 3' away so I think it will stay pretty dry.

Thanks for asking.....it not. Come to find out the shed had LOTS of dry rot at bottom, lots of wasp nests in the walls so. It would have cost an arm and leg to restore so we decided to scrap the shed.

I've now picked a plan that is doable for me. I found these plans for free! If anyone wants to use them?

That’s a bummer. I’m so sorry that it didn’t work out.
