sheep

I have 4 Barbado and I just love them. I got the first Barbado when he was 1 year old. It took him a few months to get used to me but now he eats out of my hand and walks up to other people as well. He is tooooooo friendly. He will see me walking up and will run from wherever he is and run to me. He will stop as he gets in front of me, stand on his 2 back legs and put his 2 front legs/hooves on my chest and smell my mouth. I have no idea what the smelling of the mouth is all about but he does it every single time. He constantly rubs up against me and always wants to play. I live in a rural area, so he is allowed to roam and eat grass in the yard. He never leaves the yard. He also has a couple of acres that he roams on as well. The other 3 Barbado are female and I just got them about a week ago. It will take some time for them to get used to me. I studied the different type of sheep for months before deciding to go with Barbado. The barbado have hair and not wool. That was the selling point for me. I can't wait until they start breeding. Good Luck in your search and choice. Keep us posted.

Ewes and wethers can make fairly good pets if handled a LOT when they are young.
I wouldnt try to make a pet out of a Ram, since they can be dangerous when mature, especially if they have no fear of humans

we are a small hobby farm that has sheep!! I love my sheep! We raise babydolls or olde english babydolls. They are all great sheep never had any problems with the rams (except messing with my does when they were in heat) In fact the only problem I have ever had with them is one very mischeveous weather who likes to goose me looking for treats. Its never heard but it makes me jump LOL Let me see if I can find a picture of sammy. Crystal

You really do need to raise them from babies. Try to get bottle babies cause they'll bond with you.

Sheep who are raised in a herd with minimal human interaction ARE very skittish, but with the right environment sometimes they will come around. We sold our skittish herd sheep Heidi, and she moved in with two bottle baby Suffolks at another hobby farm, now she comes to her new owner for food and trusts humans a lot more.

My babydoll rams were about the size of a st. bernard. I Didn't raise them from babies though. got them when they were 2 and 1. My weathers are absolutly adorable as well. I'm getting a breeding pair next month YAY!!! can't wait for babies!!! Crystal
