June 21/22 POTD: Summer nights are…

Summer nights are all the things that you miss in Winter, but don’t notice are gone. Crickets chirping, bullfrogs moaning, Whippoorwills calling, leaves rustling in the wind. Summer nights are breezes blowing through the balmy air as the stars peek through the cloudless sky. Summer nights are waves gently lapping the shore as crabs come in and out of their holes. Summer nights are walking bear-foot without a care in the world. Summer nights are driving by a sunset, while listening to country music. Summer nights are bug bites, and wind chimes. Summer nights are lightning splitting the sky amidst charcoal clouds while thunder shakes the ground and rain drops pierce the humid hot air. Summer nights are the smell of flowers and the taste of ice cream. Summer nights are a feeling of excitement and joy in your soul at future prospects, that settle into a hopeful peace. Summer nights are free and fleeting.

Summer nights are sitting around a campfire, playing music on a guitar, singing with friends.
Summer nights are staying outside late, waiting for the sun to set, to see the light dance around the dress as it slowly fades to darkness.
Sleeping outside on the deck, gazing up at the stars, seeing more than you thought was possible.
Riding bareback through a field, laughing together.
