Shell color

Why it is some days egg shells are darker in color , and some days they are VERY light . Same 3 hens laying . Varity of food ?


Anybody have any idea ?

With some breeds the shells just get lighter as the hens age. I have some that lay light brown eggs with really dark freckles on them sometimes. Sometimes not.

I know diet can change the color of the yolk, but I think it's more genetics that makes the color of the shell.

I think slight variation from day to day is normal. Going from a white egg to a brown egg or from a green egg to a totally blue egg would be unusual for sure.
