I've had a broody hen on four eggs for 20 days, and 3 hatched, but when I moved her out of her nesting box into her brooder with her babies, I saw her fourth egg in the very back of the nesting box, alot of the shell looks like it was peeled off/fell off?? It was cold to the touch and at first I thought it was dead, but I could feel the chick squirming through the membrane, and it yelled at me, lol. I put it in a incubator wrapped in a warm damp cloth. But where do I go from there?? How do I help it? Do I help it? I've hatched HUNDREDS maybe even a thousand eggs out of the incubator (first time letting a broody hen do it) and I've never had something like this. How in the world could this of happened? I have pictures but I'm not sure how to upload them

I'm still rather new at this and only used an incubator once. I think if you felt the chick move and heard it, it's alive and I wonder if it needs assistance. Yes, keep the membrane moist. Make sure you have high humidity in the incubator. I'm guessing about 70%.

Possibly post in https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures.10/ As this is for emergencies and I think that may be what you have. Try to post there. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can help you.

Thank you so much. All I could think of was to have her post in emergency. Besides yelling to my computer for someone to help.
I wish I had some answers but I've never incubated so I look at these threads to learn. If you ever see a thread that should be moved, you can click on the 'Report' button and type a quick explanation.

I do know that one needs to keep the membrane moist, so it does not "shrink wrap" the chick. The membrane drying around the chick.

Hopefully, I will not need to use the Report button, but great to know for an emergency. Thank you!
