Shell-less egg

Yup @Hybridchucks I'm in the southwest you see all the stories on national news about it we should be cooling down slightly this coming week it's been rough! I had to rescue them at 9 pm last night it was still 105 and they were crying bc of the heat so I went out armed with a flashlight and ice chips
Yes!
I have orbit misters on a timer. They come on at 2 in the afternoon and go off at 6. On hot days I will have to run them longer because it is over 100 until 11pm or so. It is terrible!

Have never heard of this.

Food Grade DE has a lot of calcium in it and is in a form that is easily digested. It is one of the best uses for Food grade DE. Soft shells go hard pretty much over night.

Nothin like this AZ heat that's for sure! We've lost 3 so far and we have two inside cooling off.
That's so sad! I'm sorry!
I installed ac in their mansion and I just made a homemade electrolytes for their water but at night they suffer until it cools more
We are really a desert oasis with everything we have I have so many critters coming around for water and shade to survive

Never heard of it's use to supplement calcium in chickens.....not sure I buy it. Calcium needs other vitamins and amino acids to be absorbed.

Why would it be different from oyster shell calcium? It does not have vitamins and amino acids in it either.

I have been doing this for several years and it works for me. I have also read about doing this when researching articles on fixing soft shelled eggs.

A good vitamin with vitamin D in it and food grade DE works wonders.

Go ahead and research it if you like or just try it next time you have soft shelled eggs

This might help! People can and do take food grade DE to help with calcium problems:

What Is In Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth?
The breakdown of high-quality food grade DE is as follows:

  • 3% magnesium
  • 19% calcium
  • 5% sodium
  • 33% silica
  • 2% iron
Trace minerals include:

  • Manganese
  • Zirconium
  • Titanium
  • Copper
  • Boron
Using Diatomaceous Earth As A Nutritional Supplement
The health benefits imparted by food grade diatomaceous earth are mostly attributable to the fact that it consists of about 85% amorphous silica.

In the past, it was possible to consume plenty of silica in the everyday diet; however, with today’s hybrid and genetically modified foods and the fact that a great deal of growing land has been overused and/or become toxic, this is no longer possible.

This is quite unfortunate because ample silica consumption is essential for the proper care of bones, cartilage, tendons, teeth, nails, skin and even the bloodstream. The body’s vital organs (e.g. lungs, liver and heart) need lots of silica to perform correctly.

Taking diatomaceous earth as a supplement improves the body’s ability to process and use calcium. It also helps improve mineralization of the bones. It helps with cartilage development to help protect joints and slow and prevent the aging process.
