Shell-Less eggs

Hey Y'all , I purchased 5 Hens about 2 weeks ago, and 1 hen is giving me shell less eggs...
How do I know if I should just get rid of her or can I save her.?


we don't know how old she is, and I am just starting out, I think what happen someone saw I knew nothing so the sold me 5 hens that are no good... 3 out of the 5 either wont lay or Lays this shell less.. The other 2 will not lay!! this hen I sent a pic of She laid the 1st sell less. in the pic. I went back 15 min to collect from a hen that was laying and grabed hers and looked over and found ANOTHER!!! PLEASE HELP... I feel like I am doing something wrong....

PLEASE NOTE: I am feeding her, GMO FREE Egg laying mesh, Pellets, Oyster Shells, and feed egg shells every other day or so..and I give them Veggies, watermelon or some type of Fruit! Every day... They give us food, so they need to eat healthy to keep them healthy and that part I understand... I remember reading before starting... HAPPY CHICKENS MEAN HAPPY EGGS!! AND I BELEIAVE THAT!!

Glad you could join the flock! If you have only just got these hens they could be feeling a little out of sorts due to being an a new home. Moving hens really can put them off or Interupt their laying machines. Also very young or older hens can produce poor eggs. Either because they are getting their laying machines in order or they are coming to the end of their laying life. Sorry you are having trouble. Yorkshire gave you great information. I suggest you might want to withhold grasses fruits and veggies for a couple weeks to be sure the hens are getting the proper calcium to form a shell. They may be over indulging. Yogurt or cottage cheese in small amounts is a option. Best of luck to you, I hope they sort it out.

It can take them several weeks to settle in and start laying regularly after being moved to a new home. No more treats until you know they are eating their feed. Offer treats later in the day, after they have eaten a good portion of their feed, and only give small amounts of treats. No more than 10% of their diet should be extras.
How old are they? Another reason for older hens to not lay is the time of year. Mature hens over a year old will molt every fall. They don't lay eggs while molting. Some will start to lay as soon as they finish molting, others won't lay again until spring is on the way.

I am unsure the age... I am Guessing OLDER! Someone mentions her legs look like they had or have MITES? and I should watch out for the rest of my Flock.. No I am even more nervous!

If one does have scaly leg mites, coating the legs and feet with vaseline for a few days will smother the mites.

Welcome. This is my blue pullet and she lays a shell less egg almost every day. Or I think it's her, it is always under the roost where she sleeps. I also get blue eggs from her that are perfect on one side and kind of flat/wrinkled on the other side. This has been going on for two months or more now. I have had chickens most of my life and never had this problem.
