Shelters....

How are going to move them without running over them? Mine always get hung under the back, even pulling tem by hand!!! If anyone has solved this problem, it would be a great help!!

You can just toss some scratch or greens away from where you are going, and that will lead them that way. Thats what we did when we had layers in a tractor.

I would build two structures that should be plenty big enough to house 200 birds at night and for sun/rain protection.

The netting is good for broilers, it's horrible for layers though.

Maybe Cornish X are different this way, but my standard Cornish love the greens so much that when I stand in front of the tractor for 20 seconds or so, they run to the front in anticipation of the coming goodies.

Jeff, I would be interested in the background of your comment about layers and electric netting. I've seen a number of setups with that combination. Looked like it was working okay to me. Is there something I was missing?

I just had a bad experience with it I guess? I too have seen those set ups lol... which is why I got the netting. I have two rolls and enclosed 300 plus layers in it and moved it about every 3 days.

They would fly right over it, especially if they got spooked... the whole flock would go crazy trying to get under a tree or the laying house. 40% of them would end up outside the fence.... and many would be tangled up in the netting.... leaving me with more dead birds than the hawk would have done on its own.

Nope... my cornish x do the same things.... Glutens they are!

If they see me feeding the layers in the morning the go crazy because they know they are next.
