We picked up our new lambs this past Thursday evening. The wethered ram lamb is on the left and the ewe lamb is on the right. My son named the boy Thunder and I named the girl Charlotte. We've been sitting in their pen several times a day petting them and having them lay on our laps trying to get them used to us so we can put them outside and have them come to us when called. The breeder said it takes about 3 to 4 days. If any one has good advice about raising Shetlands, please do so as all the advice I'm getting right now are from books and we know how that can be sometimes.

we got our lambs a little over a month ago - 2 from an auction at the stockyard and 3 from a neighbor. it took us a LOT longer and 3-4 days to get them to trust us and let us touch them. but they do now, and we have found rubbing them in the following order helped: top of the nose for a few days, under the chin next few days, standing by them when they eat their grain from the trough and touching their necks a few days, and now they come greet us when it's meal time and follow us when we are working on their shed. one wears a red ear and a white ear from "helping" us paint the shed. another leans on us and beeeeggggs for a neck rub. maybe they are too friendly now . . .

Thanks for the pics Hiedi. They are cute. I really don't know anything about sheep so I haven't seen this breed before. Have fun with your knew additions to the farm.

Sandrachx - I don't believe in too friendly.

Well this afternoon they were willing to come up and sniff me and let me touch them briefly before walking away. At least they don't run to the other side of the pen when I walk into the building. When they can't see me, but can hear me talking to the chickens they do their cute calling "maaa" - I always thought it was "baaah"....
