They're used to foraging much more than I can do for them, so I think they'll be happy to go home. Since this is new to me, I wanted to be responsible and make sure I'm up for it. And I am!Inky is a girl.
I'm sure Pixie is too, but without a solid age...it's hard to be certain.
That's great. Won't you be sad to see these hens go though?
I couldn't ever rent birds. I'd get so attached to them.
Yeah. As I said, they're not the most reliable narrators. But this has been so amusing. I'm learning much more than I bargained for!Oh goodness
He's obviously a whooooole lot younger than they said.
I'm starting with fully feathered chicks who can go directly to the coop. (Which is arriving today--hooray!) One Easter Egger, one Whiting True Blue, and two Salmon Faverolles. Picking them up from Sugar Feather Farm in VT mid-October. (I'm in CT, so about 3 hour drive.)Are you going to start with chicks?
Keep us posted! On this topic of pecking order. I have a hen that was top hen then she got sick. She’s better now but not 100%. Now the others are picking on her, she waits to eat and kind of stays away from the others. Her comb is floppy, dried our and pecked on, her tail tattered. Heartbreaking, now she’s my favorite.
I wonder if she will gain hierarchy once she fully recovers.
