I'm so sorry. You and your Husband tried the best you could. So don't blame yourself. The fact that you care just shows that you're a good... a fantastic... chicken keeper.I was right. She died. My hubby tried to help her, but I think she was too weak. What an awful day.
On the plus side, the little Polish is now great. She loses her balance sometimes when she tips her head back to drink. But she's adorable. I named her Myrtle. I haven't named the others because I'm afraid they'll die. I may need to get Myrtle a friend. Idk. She is kind of... special. I'm not sure she'll be able to be part of the big flock. We'll see.
And my Silkie mamas are very happy and doting on those 3 remaining babies. Hopefully, I don't find any more have died overnight.
None of this feels very good.
I don't think she can be with another chick right now or I would just go pick up another. Her face is still pretty bloody, and she's just really... unsteady. She's also very small. Maybe in a week. By then, her face might be healed up enough and she'll be about the size of a few day old chick. But she is so cute and funny. She has a great little attitude. And the 3 remaining are doing splendidly. The 2 mamas are working together well.I'm so sorry that you lost the EE. Try to take some solace in knowing that you did save the polish. I don't know, is it too late to slip her in with the others? Or maybe you could pick up another chick at a store near you.
Cute names. They're all cuties! Poor little Myrtle, but she's looking better, you're looking after her well.Ok. I've named the surviving 4.
Myrtle (buff laced Polish - poor little thing looks haggard after the ordeal she's been through)

I'm taking comfort in that. She was lying on her side and panting when I took her out of the shipping box. But she still stumbles backward when she drinks, the awkward little goofball.Cute names. They're all cuties! Poor little Myrtle, but she's looking better, you're looking after her well.
Peanut used to do that. He couldn't balance well and he usually fell on his back and screamed until I came to help him. Sometimes he used to almost drown himself and I got so scaredI'm taking comfort in that. She was lying on her side and panting when I took her out of the shipping box.
