Ship-and-Adopt-A-Long!

How is peanut now? Did he outgrow that?
He grew up to be a strong and healthy rooster. I had to rehome him but he was healthy and happy when I did.

That's a great pic. He looks like he's happily surprised! Hahaha!

So I'm hanging out with Myrtle (she's been lonely, I think). She's got an air bubble under her skin! I know what to do about it, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened to her! I checked over her brooder - nothing. No edges. No pokey things. The only thing I can think of is the EE who passed must've pecked the heck out of her before the EE went downhill. She didn't seem strong enough to do that much damage. So weird....

Poor Myrtle. The tiny thing has been through so much in her few days of life: hatching, shipping, almost dying, reviving, getting injured, being alone.

Meyer has been great! After I initially contacted them about the first loss, they followed up to see how things were going. They offered to send replacements (I declined) and refunded half my order even though it's past the 48 hour cut off.

And Myrtle is going to he coming with me to work for a while. I'm going into full-on protective mama mode, I think.

Quick question: It's going to dip into the 30s tonight. Are my mamas and babies going to be ok in those temps? Babies are not yet a week old. I feel like they should be (esp with 2 doting mamas) but thought I'd ask to be on the safe side.

They'll be fine as long as they're under mama. Check for drafts- that was how Basil died.
I've had chicks play outside in 3°C weather just fine.

All right, y'all. My new chicks ship TOMORROW.

I have 6 fenale chicks coming from Meyer:
  • Easter Egger
  • Fibro Easter Egger
  • Crested Cream Legbar
  • Green Queen
  • Buff Laced Polish
  • Assorted Rare
The plan is to take these babies and give them to my ever-broody Silkies, Dandelion and Violet to adopt.

I too have a Dandi(lion) satin silkie, she hatched out 5 little silkies! Now we have silkie mixes, BCM & EE mix in the incubator. I too cannot wait to see the babies

I’m so sorry you lost the EE babies! But I also want to add just like the others that you shouldn’t feel at all bad about them having a tough time. If you hadn’t ordered them, someone else would have and the end would have been the same or worse! Most are not dedicated enough to give so much love and care to them! I try to comfort myself when I have babies that hatch and don’t thrive. I hold them and baby them and give them lots of attention and love, knowing their time is short. You are an amazing chicken momma! ❤️
