Shipped chicks dying!**Update**

Agreed. My chicks were sent out on a Wednesday. They actually left the hatchery around midnight on Tues. After sitting at the PO all night, they started their trip. At every single leg of their journey, they missed their connection, and sat at each facility for an other 12 hours. They finally made it to Southern Maine early Friday morning. Repeated calling and urging resulted in me finally getting the info that they had been sent to a closer sorting facility, but again, missed the connecting truck to get sent to my PO. My Post Master was actually very helpful, and tried repeatedly to get a response from the local sorting facility. They never answer their phone there. So, I took a chance and drove to the sorting facility. It's not available to the public AT ALL. Met an employee in the parking lot who made a few phone calls and then she took the time to escort me and my car to the correct bay at the back of the facility. I'd not have got in if not for her help, her employee badge, and her knowledge of the system. The guy working that bay was completely deaf, and would have never known there was any one there. Had I not been pushy enough to complete all of these steps, my chicks would have sat there for 24 hours, and I'd have picked up a box of dead chicks on Saturday morning. As it was, I lost 2 due to lengthy transit.

I feel your pain .... my last order, a PO 110 miles away called me to tell me that my chicks were in --- they were not delivered to the PO 1 block from my home, but 110 miles away! Thinking that these clowns would probably wait a few more days to send them to my PO, we drove the 110 miles (blew up our car in the process) and picked up the chicks. We only lost 3 chicks total, but I wouldn't want to guess how many would have suffered and died had we not driven down there and picked up the chicks. BTW, a mechanic told us, while the car was still right on the tow truck, that the engine was toast - Oh well, I guess these things happen ... :(, :( grrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, we actually live near Sandy Level Va but our address says Chatham VA. So i am going to have to drive to that PO, which is not nearby to get the keets.

You all are making me nervous about my guinea keets shipping the 11th...

Relax, this probably doesn't happen to everyone , just one of those PO 'anomalies'. My son in TN ordered a bunch of guineas and they all arrived safely and in good condition. The PO's here in MT AREN'T getting too much help from the HQ in WA-D.C., they're cutting back constantly, fewer and fewer carriers, fewer and fewer postal office workers, delivery 3 days a week, and still whining about needing more money for postage (what for? another new carpet in the PO General's office?) as a matter of fact, the line at the 'Central PO' where I picked up the chicks was down to only one person on the desk, and there were about 7 people in the line!
