So I have been reading up as much as I can. I ordered 10+2 free duck eggs, of course the USPS was rough on them and I expected this. Two were broken on arrival, they were tossed. I candled the remainders for cracks etc. and they were ok other than some rolling air sacs. 7 air sacs were rolling, and 3 were in good shape. I let all of the eggs rest for 24 hours in a carton with the pointed end down at room temp. They were than placed in the upright positions (pointed end down) while the 3 good air celled ones I layed on their sides like normal.
I candled today (day 7) and this is what I saw..
8 eggs show developing veins/heart.
1 egg is infertile.
1 egg has a visible blood ring.
I cracked open the infertile one and confirmed it. Cracked open the blood ring one, and confirmed it needed to go as well. However! When I opened the blood ring egg the yolk was scrambled. I noticed while candling that a lot of them looked abnormal to me as far as yolk placement, it seems to be floating in the center of the egg and I do not see a nice round yolk. I did notice that the 3 laying on their sides ALL look like text book embryo's and yolk for day 7. So here is my question(s).
Are the ones that do not look like a nice round yolks scrambled? Do embryos still form with broken yolks and than quit further into incubation? I felt like the appearance of the yolk is based on their positioning (standing pointed end down). But after opening the one with the blood ring all scrambled I am not sure.... Have you noticed a difference in candling appearance based on positioning in incubator?
I will update as I get further into incubation but would like to hear opinions on the matter.
