I know people talk about how bad shipped eggs are to hatch, but I would like to get some silkies, and anybody who sell them doesn't live near me, the closest if found is on eBay!! Should I get them ?? Any suggestions would be nice :)

I don't recommend shipped eggs as a first time hatch, simply because getting everything figured out is hard enough with out the added stress of shipped eggs. First hatches are when you learn what works for you and it can often be most disspointing to spend the money and end up with a bad hatch and discouraging to boot. I always reecommend starting with local eggs, figure out what works for you and then if you want to try shipped eggs, you have a better idea of how to incubate and how much of the hatch is user error and how much you can blame on shipped eggs.

If you've had a few hatches under your belt, and you are comfortable spending the money and can handle it if it turns out not so great, then go for it.

This is my first hatch, and I used shipped eggs from MPC. At day 7, 12/13 eggs were growing well. I had one die (blood ring), and one has a saddled air cell, but other than that they look good. Hopefully things will continue to go well. I will try to update at day 14.

Yup, they are definitely worth buying. It is a chance to get a few chicks from different bloodlines into your flock.

I also suggest running a test hatch of local farm eggs. It doesn't matter what kind. Just don't put a lot of money into your first incubation, even if you have a Brinsea.

It is probably my 4th or 5th year hatching, it's just last year I got 28 shipped eggs and I think I maybe got 5 :/ along with about 6/18 local eggs, but I did have a very bad incubator, that had a few problems, so saying that is was their fault because they were shipped, would be unfair and I would like to give it another try !!

Plus after reading your comments I bought 12 silkies eggs on eBay, the seller had excellent reviews, 3 white, 3 black, 3 gold, and 3 cuckoo, that will be shipped next Wednesday due to may other hatches, and should arrive next Friday!

Good luck!!

I bought shipped eggs from my pet chicken and I was very nervous about. I ordered 18 eggs and they gave me one extra. I am on day 20 now and already FIVE of the eggs have hatched and they are perfectly healthy! I had 2 infertiles and 3 died during development. It was a very stressful, long 21 days and I had issues but even with those issues my eggs are turning out great! as long as you keep things consistent and work hard to follow the "rules of incubation" you should be okay! All eggs are different though and I have heard of people having bad luck with shipped eggs. This was my first hatch and I did well so maybe you will, too!
