I recently incubated a batch of shipped eggs with detached air cells and followed the instructions listed on the shipped eggs thread. I ended up leaving them upright in cartons and not turning for 3 days, hand turning the rest of the incubation and had a pretty decent hatch. I am about to start another batch and am wondering whether or not I could put eggs in the turner this time after the initial 3-4 days of not turning IF the air cells reattach. The air cells I have now are more wobbly and not as detached and rolling as the first batch. I would rather use the auto-turner for the convenience but not if it could compromise the eggs, if its risky I will just hand turn upright again. Thoughts?

Short answer is : Yes you can put them in the automatic turner if the air cells reattach. I'll put them in the automatic turner even if "most" of them reattach. :)

Hi! Wonder how it went with this batch? I am in the same situation, just set my shipped eggs with "jiggly" air cells upright in the incubator. Planning not to turn them for at least 2 days. I also read the shipped hatching threads. Did you end up placing them to auto turn or did you hand turn again, if so how was your hatch? Thanks for taking the time to answer if you can!:)

Hi! I am on day 19 and have 7 of the original 10 eggs alive and in lockdown! The 3 that quit in the first week were the ones with the worst air cells. I ended up leaving them in cartons without turning for 4 days. I then hand-turned until day 10 and after confirming that all cells were stable I placed in the auto-turner. So far so good but I will update after hatch!

I used the automatic turned and got 3 out of 12 to fully develop. But I have no clue if my air cells were attached it not since I didn't let them sit and didn't not turn them for a few days (I hadn't learned about that until like 2 weeks into incubation

Only 3 out of 13 (only 7 went to lockdown) of my last batch of "jiggly" air celled eggs hatched as I also did not know about the upright hatching and not turning until I was well into the incubation. Switched to upright the last week of incubation. Hard to know if I could have done anything different, so many factors involved in incubating eggs. So much easier for the hen to do it! Trying to follow all the "rules" this time and see what happens! :)

Great news! Can't wait to hear how it goes! :)
Just Finished up Day 21 and ended up with 5 Chicks, which ironically is the exact same as my last batch that was hand turned the entire time! So it looks like its dealer's choice there.

Don't think the last two will hatch as I had an accident involving my 15-month-old and the incubator cord which resulted in a ton of water spilling into the inside of the incubator and caused a huge humidity spike and subsequent clean-up that I believe may have killed the last two chicks.

Overall I am happy with my 5 Lav Orps but I think I'm going to put the incubator away for the Summer! Keeping humidity in check was such a pain this time.

Best of luck with your hatch!!
