Shipped quail eggs

Some need to get their incubator set, I think you could put them in with the turner off. Letting them set overnight without putting them in the incubator. Not going to harm them much. They do need the air cell on the large end.

If you put it in the incubator instead of the egg getting to settle it goes to work. After shipping it is best to let the egg settle back down. If the egg is starting to develop rapidly you aren't really giving the Chalaza time to tighten back up. Plus once they get heat you HAVE to turn them.

I also don't agree with leaving them out for 24 hours. That is too long. 8 hours is sufficient. Egg start to loose fertility at 7 days. Shipped eggs have already lost some of those crutial days. Even eggs that are not in the incubator should be turned at least once a day and if you were to put them in the incubator they HAVE to be turned at least twice a day. Eggs are turned not only to excercise the embryo but also for nutrition. Moving the yolk gives the embryo a new point of nutrition in the yolk. if you do not turn the eggs the developing embryo literally starves to death.

Wow, hear it all now they will starve. Reason for turning eggs is so the yolk doent stick to the side of the egg. They drag the egg into their body just before hatching.

Another reason to rest the egg is for the yolk to center itself.

No matter what best to let eggs set large end up for 8 hour before turning. in or outside of the incubator.

I agree, it is a matter of preference. But to the comment of 'letting eggs rest that came from a 90 degree coop', I don't 'rest' any eggs that are not shipped. Shipped eggs are different. If I had one empty incubator all set and ready for shipped eggs when they arrived, I probably would set them with the turner off for a day. But since I'm always adding eggs to an already running/turning incubator, I let them settle for 24 hours. Eggs are time sensitive, but one day shouldn't make that much of a difference. But to each their own I guess...

It seems that I have stated this too simply. "Starve" the embryo will do if eggs are not turned. Turning eggs increases the growth of the chorioallantois, stimulates the development of the blood vesels ("excercise" as I put it) , increases absorption of albumen . If you don't turn the eggs the vessels wont grow and those vessels not growing blocks nutrients coming from the yolk to the embryo. Essentially the embryo "starves" to death and if it doesn't die the growth of the embryo is stunted.

The Chalaza is what holds the yolk in place. Once the chalaza settles the yolk centers. If the chalaza breaks the yolk floats to the top where once again the embryo will not recieve proper nutrients and will die.

This is getting touchier than a discussion about brooder litter!
Thanks for the detailed reasons from the people that provided it! I have just been blithely following directions hatchery people have been giving.
I learn things on this board all the time.

I would also like to apologize to anyone I may have offended.

I'll just bow out by saying "Just do what ever you want, or what works for you and don't mind Me."
