Now that I'm producing more chicks, I'm working on NPIP certification and trying to learn more about safely shipping chickens (not eggs). If you ship regularly, I'd love to know your opinion on the following:
Now that I'm producing more chicks, I'm working on NPIP certification and trying to learn more about safely shipping chickens (not eggs). If you ship regularly, I'd love to know your opinion on the following:
- I know USPS requires that chickens are either a day old, or over a certain weight. How do you personally determine when your juveniles are old enough to handle shipping?
- What temperature range are you comfortable shipping in?
- There seems to be a general consensus that you should ship early in the week. Does the time of day that you drop them off at the post office influence things too?
