shipping eggs-i must be doing it wrong-please help

it apparently, according the the usps website, has to do with the size of the box i used, although i received eggs, in the same box, last week for that had only $10 of postage on it coming from missouri to me in florida. *shrugs*

if i expect my poor husband to support me in shipping eggs all over the place, i've got to do better than this!

That is crazy! It must have something to do with the size of the box, though that ones not much bigger than the #7's the p.o. has on their site. I use either the #4 box or the #7 box. The #4 will hold about 9 bantam eggs or 6-7 standard eggs and the rate on it is like $5. The #7 will hold at least one dozen eggs in a carton, or it can hold probably 18 'free--floating'. This one has costed me at most $8 to ship. I don't use the flatrate boxes anymore.

wow adkins90 just sent me a bator and turner (taped together) priority for $16! wv-ms, something sounds off i think they put the wrong size in?

So if you don't use the flat rate box, a carton of a dozen eggs will fit in a #7.

If you use the flat rate, is it the next to largest box size you want or the "perfect for shoes" size?

How much did the box weigh? From what you described you had 3 boxes packed inside one another plus other packing material. The weight can add up quickly.

they did this to him one other time........i sent him with a book to mail media mail............and they told him it couldn't be mailed media and charged him first class. he's a pretty nice guy, they couldn't just be over charging him to get back at him for something. who knows? maybe its the old "don't take your car to a male mechanic if you're a woman" thing..........in reverse!

I shipped a saddle for $28! We sent out an 8lb pair of boots on Tuesday, in an 18" box, and that was only $10 with $150 insurance too! Someone at the USPS must have screwed up somewhere. Was insurance added, or anything else?

I haven't used the shoe boxes myself, but I believe I have read that they can fit 2 dozen in them.

They go by zones. So if I ship from NY to Maine, it will be cheaper b/c it goes by zones. I think NY and Maine are the same zone or very close. $21...how much did those boxes weigh? Unless he shipped it Express or those boxes and contents were heavy, it should not have cost that much.

I would NOT recommend flat rate boxes for shipping eggs unless you are shipping a LOT of eggs across the state b/c it'll be cheaper to just ship it priority regular. You should be able to get priority supplies free in any post office. You can only use those supplies to ship priority. Most P.O's will offer other boxes and shipping supplies in the office to buy, but those are not priority, express, etc. and will not be free.

Hope this helped more than hindered!!! hehe If you tell the weight of the package (should be on your receipt, as well as what zone it went to and the zip code) and the zips, I can give you a basic idea of what happened.
