Not exactly.

They go by zones. So if I ship from NY to Maine, it will be cheaper b/c it goes by zones. I think NY and Maine are the same zone or very close. However, Maine to TX would be way opposite zones and cost more per pound. It goes by pound and by zip code. The further apart your zip codes, the more it cost. Shipping from NY to Maine will cost the same as shipping Maine to NY, though, as long as everything is the same (weight, box, etc., etc.).

$21...how much did those boxes weigh? Unless he shipped it Express or those boxes and contents were heavy, it should not have cost that much.

I would NOT recommend flat rate boxes for shipping eggs unless you are shipping a LOT of eggs across the state b/c it'll be cheaper to just ship it priority regular. You should be able to get priority supplies free in any post office. You can only use those supplies to ship priority. Most P.O's will offer other boxes and shipping supplies in the office to buy, but those are not priority, express, etc. and will not be free.

Hope this helped more than hindered!!! hehe If you tell the weight of the package (should be on your receipt, as well as what zone it went to and the zip code) and the zips, I can give you a basic idea of what happened.

The only boxes I can get at my p.o. that aren't flat rate are the shoe boxes. Online, there are many different ones, and the p.o. delivers them for free.

I noticed that at ours, too.

I can get some in the back b/c I work there, but just ordered some myself as well. I generally have spare boxes around the houses from stuff I've bought, anyway, though so use just regular brown boxes more than anything, to be honest. You can get some free at grocery stores, etc., too on stocking days if you ask.

You should be able to take your receipt , go to the USPS website, pretend like you are calculating shipping , put in the dimensions, priority, weight , zips and the delivery confirmation and see what it calculates. If it's different than what you paid, I would
go back to the PO with your receipt and ask what's up. It may have been considered
an oversize box.
