I know many of you ship or recieve eggs but it sounds like always US Post Office. What about UPS?

THe reason I ask is because I am very rural I can count on UPS but not US Post Office for package delivery...so while I can drive 70 miles round trip to get the eggs I worry.

Are there other methods you use to ship eggs?

thanks for the info

This is not necessarily about eggs however my uncle used to work for UPS and he said quite firmly he would never send another package through them.... employees playing soccer with boxes etc.

I used to work for UPS, although I never saw anyone playing soccer with the boxes, the handlers were not gentle and words like "fragile" written on the box did not mean a thing. If you send the eggs with all the bubble wrap that I saw on another thread they should be fine. The rule of thumb is when you shake the box you shouldn't be able to hear any movement. I would worry more about the heat of the tracker trailer trucks...they can be pretty hot during the summer months. If you ship next day and/or insure the package, it will get handled a little better but mostly it will spend less time sitting in one of the big trucks. When I worked for UPS there was a lot of bull semen sent through and they used these big canister...just thought you'd like that interesting fact....

The tactor trailer issue and rough handling is the same potential you will find with the P.O. Always a risk with eggs and shipping. But getting them 3 - 5 days fater with UPS is a big bonus.

I think we all know the biggest factor in getting hatchable eggs through any delivery system is in the packing.

Yeah I think it depends on your area too. The PO is so far from us that that will complicate issues for me. I just talked to my UPS lady today who drives up here over the mountain roads. She says that she is very careful with packages....after 7 years with Mary I agree she is wonderful.

She said the main thing was the packign and lots of bubble wrap.

She loves my garden and I do give her things from it....now she has her own garden. She was very interested in hatching eggs by the mail. So maybe I have assured at least part of the journey might be safe.

I guess it is the luck of the draw

Planning to start the chicken house and run building in Feb.

I wouldnt ship a brick through UPS (United Package Smashers) everything I have ever gotten from them has been smashed.
I used to build custom computers and one time i needed a case for a build, ordered it and it was shipped UPS, i got it and the entire side of the case had been smashed in, same with a monitor I had ordered, the whole bottom was broken and I had to return it.

I called customer care and explained that I am running a business and I have orders to fill and they are costing me time and money by having to return all of the smashed items. I asked for a refund on the shipping charges and would they do that for me, nope...So I refuse to use them anymore, I'll pay more to use another carrier

Fed-ex or DHL, I have never had a problem with em
