I would like to start shipping and selling quail eggs because my output is increasing.

I was wondering how people pack and protect their eggs during shipping.

Where do you buy the holder/cartons?

Any other advice?

I hand wrap each egg in bubble wrap...pack together in a box after putting down a layer of shredd paper..sometimes put a layer of paper between each stack of eggs...and keep going till I fill the box. Or on larger orders I use chukar/quail paper egg trays and wrape the whole tray in bubble wrap then pack tonight.

glewis. I got some today that were placed in a carton and the carton was wrapped in bubble wrap, and then is shredded paper. The box was not damaged, but I lost over a third of the eggs, cracked, from rattling loose in the quail carton. You can get foam with holes in it, obviously more expensive, or individual bubble wrap is a good alternative. You can't win if they squash the box or scramble the eggs in the shell, but then its not your fault.

hmmm i keep hearing that about breakage and people not being able to pack them appropriately.

I am trying to figure out a strong and safe way to pack them that will work all the time!

My method has proven itself with hundreds of eggs. And eggs going from PA to Alaska and Puerto Rico.

I personally don't like to bubble wrap eggs, eggs need to breath.I use the foam egg shippers from www.redoakgamebirds.com.They fit perfectly in the 12x12 priority shipping boxes at your local post office.I cot 2 pieces of cardboard to fit inside the box,put 1 piece on the bottom, then a few pieces of the 1/2" spacer pieces(also at red oaks),the foam egg shipper cover that with another spacer and then the other piece of cardboard on top.I tape from side to side on both sides.I make a handle out of duct tape so it will fold into the box but is easy to pull out.I wish I had taken a pic of them.

Whether eggs need to breathe has been debated plenty. I've had no lower hatch rates on bubble wrapped eggs than nonbubble wrapped so long as they are packaged properly. I have gotten far more eggs not packaged properly and therefore lower hatch rates when people tried to avoid bubble wrap. I pack the quail eggs in trays. If I don't have exact fitting trays I use paper towel to pack it or occasionally wrap the eggs in strips of paper towel but that's time consuming. Usually I only wrap them individually if I'm only sending out a few button quail eggs since it's harder to get cartons that fit them anyway. For the ones that aren't wrapped completely I lay a paper towel over top and run strips of tape across the rows in both directions to hold them down without taping directly to the egg. It makes a tighter fit than trying to find cartons that fit quail eggs exactly. Then I wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap and layer them in the box with balled up newspaper to pack the edges. I did get over 200 coturnix eggs in plastic cartons with no packaging in the carton. Just the whole carton padded. One half of one carton was crushed from the weight of the eggs on top of it but I still came out with more than I ordered and a well over 50% hatch rate. It can be done that way but I've also more than once received smashed button eggs because someone tried to put them in cartons that were too loose or put them in trays without thoroughly taping them down so they slid out and hit each other. You have to make sure everything fits tight or is packed with something when shipping eggs of any kind.

we wrap each egg in a square of toilet paper (the glamour never ends) then put them in a quail egg carton. Then that goes in a polystyrene box which is padded out with foam chips and/or newspaper. Haven't broken any yet
