My hen Shirley has lost all of her feathers on her belly and only wants to sit on eggs. We do not have a rooster and collect the eggs daily or every other day. She doesn’t look like she’s lost weight but I am worried about her. Why has she lost her feathers on her belly ? Why does she seem moody ?
She's moody because her hormones are telling her to become a mother. The bare belly is to aid in the warming of the eggs. To break her broodiness do an on site search on 'Breaking a Broody Hen'.
