EXACTLY! its his morgage he pays, his property tax,but not his chickens!i love mine.but if someone elses was coming into my yard, making a mess and being a nucence i would take action my self!
gunnrun is acting responsibly by talking to the owners and THEN calling the authoritys!
however, the one thing im shocked about is not one reply to the OP has included the use of a live trap.
YES, you CAN catch chickens in them too!how can we be shocked about how someone thinks they have to deal with a problem if we dont give him options?but PLEASE lets respect the fact that this is HIS property, and he is trying to handle the problem RESPONSIBLY!
that said, gunnrun there are ways if you need to handle this yourself WITHOUT shooting/killing the chickens.and i hope you will go that rout if need be.

Trapping would actually be pretty easy with just using something like cheap cracked corn.

That said, let's please refrain from calling members trolls. Even if there was an intention to troll, as this thread can be seen as a touchy subject, it is very nice to see that the members of our community can rationally come in and answer such a question with level heads, without inciting flames. The thread could have easily gone downhill but it has not. Kudos to you all!

Hadn't seen any further posts from the OP.
This is an interesting topic brought up. We have neighbors that let their game chickens wander up n down the road. These wiley birds are good at evading dogs n such.

The big concern to me is the What If they are carriers of a contagious disease? I certainly would not encourage the neighbors birds near my place. I prefer them to go home as my flock is healthy and I aim to keep em healthy. So far the closest those games have come is the ditch in front of our property.

The biggest issue as far as shooting the chickens is legal.
In my area it is illegal to discharge a firearm. The OP would need to make sure that he is in legal bounds where he lives before firing off a gun.
Also, he needs to make sure he is legally disposing of the chickens (whether rehoming or killing) due to all the animal rights laws, livestock laws, and so forth.

Everyone has the right to protect their property as long as they stay in the law.

Ofcourse, it is always best to try to be peaceable first before going this route.

I didn't read all the post's but has any one thought that the chicken's of the neighbor could bring an illness or parasite to the property owners hens? Animal control may not do any thing because as I was told once there is no law against letting chickens or rabbits free range. I have a neighbor that as turned tame rabbits and chickens "free range" I don't think they wanted the chickens or rabbits any longer. My dog killed one of their rabbits, I brought it back they didn't seem to care. they let their dog chase the chickens off. The hens I think were killed by what ever lives in the woods, I caught the rooster and took him to a wild animal rescue center. He did not look healthy and I did not want him near my birds..... So tell them one more time then fill your freezer. they may not even notice the hens are gone......I let mine free range but we have 12 acres and they don't leave our property

A good air gun will drop a chicken, use the 12 ga on the troll. A well placed head shot should drop the troll, a body shot for bird.

That said there are place in some areas around here that you KNOW the chickens are only kept for 'sporting purposes'

I don't know the story or reason why or how this situation came to be.... so if nothing else, use scatter gun on troll.
