shooting Chickens

Yeah, it would be the nice neighborly thing to do to tell them to keep their chickens off your property or you might be force to take action. It would save your ammo and hurt feelings less if you gave them a chance to take care of the situation. Hopefully, they will be properly mortified that their flock has been harrassing you and get the clucks under control

.

But after being notified, I think you are within your right to shoot, altho I would hope it would not come to that.

If it happened to me, and I did not want chickens and they were wandering on my property, I would catch them and give them/sell them to a more responsible owner.

Saying that tho, if they are new to chickens, I would give them a grace period to figure out how to keep them contained. Sometimes even putting up a fence those darn chickens are sneaky and you won't know they can fly or use bushes as a way over until they are already escapees. Please don't shoot them or give them away unless the neighbors don't even bother to try to resolve the issue.

And many people here use the egg bribe- which may be nice for some, but free eggs does not always make up for the chicken poop all over your porch that gets tracked thru your house when you try to take you morning coffee outside your own home.

I have chickens, and I love them but I KNOW they can be a bother to the non-poulrty lover.

This. I have chickens. I enjoy my chickens, but fortunately their range is not near my house. I would not be happy if my own chickens found their way onto my lawn, my sidewalk, my porch, or driveway - anywhere where I might step in their poop and track it in - let alone someone else's chickens! I would be even less happy about it if I didn't have my own chickens to begin with.

OP - Sounds like you've done your part in notifying the neighbors and local law enforcement. If they continue to let their chickens roam on your property, there are lots of good recipes out there. Or, you could set up places to encourage them to nest and enjoy the eggs!

Oh I know all about chicken poo and carpet. That is why I have chicken shoes that do not go in the house. I was just curious as to the reason the OP wanted to shoot the birds.
On another note. I know it hurts to kill any animal, even the possums we had to shoot last nite. I would suggest shooting one chicken and see if that shocks the owners enough to take action. If not then fill the freezer.

It really depends on your local gun laws. You probably can legally, but I would think a long handled fishing net and a sharp knife (or broom handle if you prefer that method) would be a quieter, cheaper, more effective, and more profitable way to deal with it. As others have suggested, you might just catch up the chickens and sell them off to someone else. Or you could catch them up and butcher them for your own freezer (if you don't want to do it yourself there's always people out there who would be willing to do it for you for a small fee).

I can not figure it out all our neighbors and I get along great. What is wrong with these people they have no respect for another persons personal rights?
