Shortage of canning jars?

I'm not making my jam from my gardens lol I don't grow kiwis or strawberries and my strawberry kiwi jam is my biggest seller. It just so happens that they are both really on sale locally so I guess I will have to freeze the 12 pounds of strawberries and 6 pounds of kiwis and wait until I can find jars

Cheaper than $6 or so in my area.

The goodwill sells individual jars for $0.15-0.25/each. I buy them out if I can find any jars. Jars are getting harder to find.

Someone gave me several dozen last summer because they did not want any small mouth jars only large mouth. HUH??? I took them faster than my greedy hands could grab the boxes. LOL

Me too! I was scrounging for jars here, none to be found when TaDa old lady up the block turns out to have dozens in her barn! DH spotted them when he plowed her out. He mentioned it to her and offered to buy them and she gave us the whole lot in return for the plowing!!

its the economy, i think the mass's subconscious knows something rotten is on the horizon for the states.

Canning cars and supplies are sold out in a lot of places, seeds are selling out like mad this year- all the seed companies are floored, I spent 2 weeks on the phone with every major hatchery in every single state trying to find chicks- most were sold out until june, and everyone else until at least april. All of them said they've never had such a busy season.

I fully believe the world is falling apart and thusly keep such things stored away in my back rooms. lol. Not canning cars however- but if you ever need candles and matches iam your gal!

My walmart has cans galore still, and ebay probably does.

try craigslist.

Have you tried freecycle? It's great. Free joining, free listing, and you never know who's got what stored in those sheds and barns!
Oh, and it's area specific!

As Jenns peeps said, try criagslist. I put an ad on there to trade eggs for canning jars. I was offering two dozen eggs for one dozen jars.(new jars around here go for $10.00 a doz off season.) I got a call from a guy that had 30 doz. Got them all and now will owe him eggs for a long time.

. That is ok by me. He wanted them out of his attic and I am happy to send him eggs every week.

Thanks for the heads up by the way. I don't have a large supply of rings or lids. I will start stocking up. So far I can find jars in our stores in Oregon but who knows. Last year during the peek canning season they were harder to find at the cheaper stores.
