Should coop door swing in or swing out?

In principle swinging out is a wee bit safer vs predators but if it is well-made and well (multiply) latched, there is nothing wrong with swinging in, either. I am not convinced it usually makes a big difference. (As opposed to stalls/sheds/pens for larger livestock, which should always have doors swinging only *out*)

It is for sure worth having the sill be raised or removeable, though, so that bedding does not cascade out everytime you open the door

Good luck, have fun,

mine swing out as well and I like that because it gives more room in the coop when you are opening the door and it doesn't push all the shavings around. On the other hand the door to my run swings in so that when I open it I get in before they all get out

Hope this helps=)

Depends on size. If you have a 20x30 mega coop, doesn't matter. If you have a 4x8 coop, an inward swinging door creates too much of a dead space where nothing can go, and results in a blindspot making it difficult to clean.

Any coop or shed I have ever built always swing out. It increases your overall usable storage area.

Mine swings out by necessity (repurposed dog run) but I am really in the Swing In group. If the door swings in it is much easier to control any escape artists. My other dog run swings either way and I always use it swinging in.
