Should eggs be this big?

Rhettie, my two year old Black Star, started laying 3 1/2" eggs. Is this normal? She's very healthy and doesn't seem to have any trouble laying the supersized eggs. Ouch! That must hurt, though.

The older a hen gets the larger her eggs get but the less often she lays. Yes this is normal.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. She's lays daily and the last two eggs have been this size. I could make an omelette out of one egg!

Rhettie regularly lays double-yolkers, but they're about half the size of this monster. I'm afraid to crack it open since it might contain an alien life-form.

hahaha. i cracked a regular egg open once and it was full of blood. now I'm always scared to open eggs.
