My Mr. Roo is about 6 monthe old and I have 9 hens, that he takes care of daily. My question is he seems to pick on one and after watching him for several days now, he is only doing her. He catches her around even when she is trying to eat. And she will just ly there for him to peck her head and do his thing! They are free range and have the run of the barn. They do have there coop, I let them out each day.
Buffy (so sweet she is) will stay on the perch in the coop when the others come out. So when I feed her I close the door until she is finished.

This is making me crazy, I mean there is no blood but I feel so bad I just don't know what to to.

ANY ADVICE

I say don't worry, he'll calm down enough to give most of the girls equal attention, LOL. As long as he's not mean, I would let it go. Some of my roo's favorites also roost in the coop to hide from time to time, but, funny, at night they sleep side by side.

Thanks I just feel so bad for her and sometimes he is mean when I yelled at him he chased after me..............everyone tells me this is normal for a Roo

Hi, I would say if the rooster is not agressive towards you or the hen, keep him. But if he bugs the hen so much to the point where she hides from him or does not eat or is scared, I think its time to take him to the pot.( I had a similar problem)

If she seems to be getting sore on her back at all, you might try putting a chicken saddle on her. This helped my hen that was getting bred so much she'd been reluctant to come down to eat.

Mr. Roo is only 6 months old. He is probably a real clumbsy boyfriend right now, and isn't real good at what he's doing. With that frustration, he might come after you. But it's all just a phase and will pass. As long as he's not being mean, just overly amorous.
