I'm going to add another 2 cents, I have had a lot of male birds, Roosters, cockerels, and some were perfect gentlemen and when they got older decided to become bullies. You will just have to wait and see how he is as he gets older, he may get more protective of the females and maybe not. The main purpose for me to have males is for breeding. This. There is no way of knowing for sure how your cockerel/rooster will turn out until he grows up. And sometimes even then, their personalities can change. There is no absolute when dealing with living animals, and every one is a new experience.
