Should I assist more?

This little guy pipped out yesterday around 1pm. He had not zipped at all today so I made the zip, in the shell only, for him at 7am. When I went to check on him again an hour and a half later he had made no progress. These eggs were delayed in the mail for two weeks and humidity was probably low for those two weeks.
I was worried to start with this morning because his membrane had turned brown around the pip hole. So I removed the shell only and added coconut oil. He is lively and peeping like crazy but I can’t find his beak. He has a tuft of fuz sticking out that I think is his leg. The bright yellow bit is what made me stop. Is that the yolk? Should I help him more or let him do it? My incubator humidity could probably be higher but sits around 65%.

It should have pipped into the air cell at the large end of the egg. Looks like you "helped" at the wrong eng. I'd don't care for assisted hatching myself so I'm not expert enough to guide you on this one. Unfortunately you've really meddled with this egg. It's probably not going to be able to hatch on it's own.

Have you read the assisted hatching thread? It'll guide you through the rest of the process. Please read it, finish the job, and be prepared for ALL the issues these chicks can have. So you're ready to go with caring for a chick with leg or yolk issues.

Yeah looks like you assisted wrong side as @UThobbyfarmer said. I would do a full assist. I full assisted on of my ducklings and he turned out just fine. Just do it slow and if it starts to bleed then stop and then start again. But it has only air that is in the air sac so if you didn’t make a safety whole I would go a little quicker but be careful. Good luck!

The chick had already pipped and I didn’t realize it was the wrong side until chipping away. He was also malpositioned. I don’t think he was ready to hatch but I took him out anyway because the membrane had shrink wrapped. What can I do for him now?

This is what he looks like now. When I took the membrane off him he still had veining and that bright yellow stuff, in the second picture of him in the egg, on him so I left that there. So some of the membrane is still attached. I fully expected him to be dead by now. He’s chirping and lively though.

That yellow stuff is the yolk sac or remnants of it. What does the underside of his belly look like? If the yolk hasn't been absorbed completely and ruptures, he will more than likely die.

I was scared to pick him up but here’s the underside. He has so much dried membrane on him. How do I get it off? The yellow stuff in this pic I’m pretty sure I can just take off. But I don’t want to hurt him. I think it’s just dried membrane. I used coconut oil and TLC to get him out of the egg.

Don't try to get anything off, just let him dry off in the incubator or brooder. I can't see much from your pic but it appears the yolk was absorbed so that's a good sign.
