Hi everyone,
About 3 weeks ago a raccoon attacked my hens when they were in their run two were killed and one was badly hurt. She had a huge area on her wing that had been ripped down to the flesh and at first I thought it was broken. I left her for a few days enclosed in a safe dry area and she pulled through and started to heal up.
A huge scab formed and slowly shrunk. some feathers started to grow back and I was super excited. 3 days ago I purchased 2 new hens to keep her company. She started using her wings to keep up with them and ripped off her scab. Now she is pecking at herself, pulled out her new feathers and started the wound bleeding again.
I washed the wound with warm water containing 5 drops lavender essential oil and 5 drops tea tree oil. I then rubbed coconut oil all over the wound.
She is still pecking at it and I want to know should I bandage the wound or is that even an option as she could probably just peck it off??
Thanks for the help!
