Should I be concerned?

So sorry to hear this!!

Not sure how to ease your gander's sorrow for the time being without a new goose or goslings, but for what it is worth, my pair of ganders instantly adopted the goslings I hatched for them last year. It was precious to watch.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I was so hoping Natasha would make it.

Boris would probably like a little extra attention until the goslings arrive. My geese love to go for walks (Keld did, too), and even though they're not very attached to me they sure enjoy my company.

Or maybe Boris will get along with the ducks now that he doesn't have Natasha to be protective of? I had a bit of a crisis with my two ganders when one of them fell in love with his mirror image in the window. He wouldn't move away from it all day, he talked to it and viciously attacked the other gander if he got too close. The other gander clearly missed his company and just wandered listlessly around. I then blinded all the windows, and within two days they were back to normal, enjoying each other's company. So I'm thinking it's worth a try to let Boris be with the ducks again.

Flockman I am just so sorry you lost your girl. I do know how that feels to lose your girl. I have lost two females that I got from DH. They were fine one day and the next day we found them gone in their pen. So

to you and your family.

You have my sincerest condolences. I do hope the new goslings will help Boris recover from the loss.

How long until they arrive?
I agree, maybe the duck company wont be so bad now?

I may try Boris with the ducks. For a couple of months he has hissed when I come out to him. Last night he hissed once and then hasn't since. He is definitely not as aggressive towards me right now. I will try him with the ducks until goslings can give him some company.

Sure won't hurt to try it.

Haunted, just wanted to say that was a great link. Very informative. I know someone posted that they gave their goose a crushed calcium pill for humans, added into water. I'm thinking about doing that (just adding a sprinkle) as I do provide oyster shell grit, but in my opinion, my goose doesnt consume enough of it (and honestly, how can I know if she's getting enough calcium?!) and only during laying season. Is it ok if I do that as a supplement, or is the calcium pill only to be used in emergencies?

And GooseGirl, you mentioned that you looked into the possibility of giving a goose too much calcium, did you come across any negative effects?

(I apologize for asking this on your thread, Flockman, but I thank you for bring egg-binding to my attention)

I am having trouble with calcium here as well, both chickens and geese/ducks. I don't know what is going on. I've only used the pill for treating the binding and prolapse, not for long term. Amiga and or Casportpony are the ones to ask about this. Amiga gets something from her Vet to give to her ducks. I don't know what the answer is, I am giving mine a combination of Purina Layena Omega 3 and Blue Seal Extra Egg and they have the crushed oyster shell available as well. It's not helping much. Right now I have 2 chickens in the house being treated for egg binding and prolapse. This is crazy, maybe I need to make myself a tinfoil hat because it seems to me there's a rash of this right now. I wonder if the calcium has been reduced in the layer pellets to cut back on costs?

I apologize as well Flockman. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
