Utterly normal. Thank God for the chicken and enjoy
PS the whole "egg a day" thing stems from commercial efforts to breed the genetic layer hen. It requires serious effort to create a bird that will do 365 eggs per year, consistently. In fact, it has yet to be achieved. The best hen on record only made 364 in one year.
But even the genetic layer cant keep it up for ever and plays out after 18 months or so. For most "yard chickens," 180-200 eggs per year is more like it.
As this suggests, egg laying is periodic and influenced by the seasons. At certain times of the year, egg laying seems unstoppable - like now, in the spring.
But, when the heat of summer comes, it may taper off. The molt will stunt egg output, as will winters reduced daylight.
Simple changes in diet or even a noisy lawnmower can affect output.
