Should I be worried?

One of my hens ate a styrofoam packing peanut today.

I don't even know where she got it. I've done a sweep of the yard and have found no other such debris. She had the thing in her beak and horked it down before I could get it away from her. Given the totally inedible nature of styrofoam, I'm guessing it can't be good for her crop and belly to try and digest this thing.

Thoughts? Tips? Reassurances?

Well there is probably not much you can do other than just keep an eye on her I imagine. Only time will tell,hopefully she has enough grit to break it down enough to process through her digestive system. Maybe give her a little bread with olive oil on it to help keep things moving. I seen mine eat paper and even a cigarette butt. One of the hens took right out of my friends hand and took of with it. Anyway,keep an eye on her,make sure she is eating and drinking normally. A number of folks here have reported the same thing, usually a lot more than one of them. All the chickens did just fine. Relax!

When we built the coop we used sheets of styrafoam for insulation and my birds have been pecking at it for months now and have had no ill effects, thankfully.
