hey guys you might know that one of my hens died yesterday unexpectedly. I want to bury her but I’m afraid that she might have had a disease and she will somehow spread it in the dirt and the other chickens will die when freeranging. I’ve made a foot deep hole I’m also thinking of maybe planting a flower where she’s buried but I’m afraid her disease could spread. So, if you can help that would be great. Thanks in advance.

As long as its deep enough to where the others wont dig her up then you shouldnt have to much issues with that. Id be more worried about it attracting predators if its buried to close to your other hens. You could also put a bunch of big rocks over the grave to help prevent them from digging.

In the past when I asked the same thing, some people said NO, don't and others didn't think it would be a big deal. I think there were more people that spoke against burying a chicken that died of unknown causes, than there were that said it didn't matter.
I ended up burning mine in a fire pit:idunno and then disposing of the ashes.

Also, since you dont know how this one died, I think it may be a good idea to keep a close eye on the others or give antibiotics (more of a if anything pops up thing) just incase it is something that can be passed on.
