Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm bored.  the day is slipping by and there's not much to do (besides housework)  the flock is snubbing me because it's kind of nice out now and I won't let them out - it's "late", yes, there is more daylight left, but I can't chance them wanting to stay out more than an hour.  and they'd want to... all my photos of them are either blurry or they turned their backs!  silly birds, tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler and storms are predicted but not until late afternoon... and while it has cooled off a lot, but IMHO it's still too hot to cook. have a good night everyone!!

17 Eggs today

mv hope things get fixed, we never know what is ahead of us, but hang in there, if its ment to work out it will.
i have 6 1 1/2 yr old and 6 8mth old black sexlink also have 7 1 1/2 yr old and 7 8mth old red sexlinks, i am told the black are more claim then the red, i also have rir and delawaren and a few odd ones, just went out to coop to check for eggs, we have 23 hens That lay but only got 8 today 9 yesterday and sunday the same, we do have some that want to set but we have 53 so that is it for now, makeing new coop for 25 of them, as i went into the yard one of the black sexlinks jumped up on my arm, while it is bad, i am on a blood thinner so that don't help, not sure why she did that, i told dh i think she was mad because we kicked them out of nest, but did she have to do this bad of a job on my arm. i will get even with her, not going to give her new home. lmdo
Hope your arm is better. Don't know what makes them jump up like that. Probably looking for treats!

Your post about your marriage was wonderful. My hubs and I are similar about dividing the work, and I hope we're still at it for the next 25 years!

Quote: Hahaha! I'm getting close to qualifying for old (turned 50 earlier this year), but don't feel all that much different than I did at 40. Of course at that age I had 6 and 3 yr old boys, so was too busy to notice the passage of time much.

Those turkeys are great! You can tell how huge they are from the pics. Do you wish them "Happy Turkey Day"?

Hope your hub comes back and you have a chance to sort things out.

ONE!!!!
I gave Rumples another dust bath today. It is close to 90 and the flock is sitting under the bushes. If work stays busy for the month of July I am taking Rumples to the vet. It breaks my heart to see her sit all alone. Her chicks (big chicks) snuggle with her at night, but in a month or so, I am going to ease them into cooping up at night.

We are going to a wedding in Lodi, CA on the 4th of July. It is supposed to be 100+!! I am going to melt!

Poor Rumples.

If she does pass, it might be worth having a necropsy done to see what happened to her.

If you want to detour to Sonoma county on your way home, come on over! (I'm about 1½ hrs west of I-5, and about 30 mins east of the blissfully cool Pacific.) It's going to be hot here too, but not as hot as Lodi. Don't melt!!!

The air is so thick outside already you can't breath! They are calling for strong storms this afternoon.
So after 15 weeks and 3 days I can report something other then nothing lol...... I have 4 of the 12 RSL's squatting!!! And one of the silkies acts like it is sorta broody and hasn't even laid and egg yet but it messing with the golf ball in box and she keeps sitting next to it so I don't know what all that means. I'm just very happy to see some different behavior! Maybe we are finally getting close to egg time.
Woohoo! It's not eggs yet, but at least they're showing signs of moving in the right direction.

Could be a couple more weeks, but hope it's sooner.

@W4W.... Thanks for the invite, but we are flying and only in Lodi for a few days. I know exactly where Sonoma is. I used to do much wine tasting up there. I am a Bay Area raised girl turned Idaho Redneck.

TWO!!!

The girls are watered and feeders are full. I put ice cubes and electrolytes in the water. I gave Rumples a dust bath and she made a strange sound. Like a cry of pain.

It is very hot out here. 94+ and very humid. Tomorrow should be in the 80's.

Bedtime.... we have to get up at 0300. Its gonna be a really long day!!!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!!

any idea how come i am not getting any eggs, 23 hens that have giving me eggs for 9 mths now stop the ones i had last summer did not stop laying when it was hot.
i am going to go out and mix with them may clean out wood from building new coop and paint camper coop.
we had to tell our people we sell eggs to we don't have any and have no idea when they will start back up again.
dh said he will start run, so i have to go out and help him move he old rabbit cage to where he wants it.

gilcamp, they are a year older... perhaps the heat is having more of an effect on them this year... my December chicks are molting now, they are 19 months old... so I've noticed a drop in count too. I attribute part of it to heat and part to molting. my 11 girls that are roughly 27 months old are doing pretty well with laying...but even they are taking every other day off or so...

mortie, that's pretty funny - I wonder if they even recognized it as their own species... lol

MC, hang in there sweetie, what will be will be, and you are stronger than you know! I understand what he expects, and he may be unyielding for compromise, but you are worthy of better treatment, so it's important that you get that message to sink in!

I'm kind of delirious this morning... I'll have to reread later and catch up on what I've forgotten to mention... hagd all!

So I go out this morning to check on the girls and stuff and right away I can see a little something in the run that wasn't there before. It's light colored and oddly shaped but having seen some pictures of some pretty weird stuff chickens have laid, I'm thinking YAY! At least something came out of someone's butt. This is progress. Probably tomorrow I will get a nice big brown egg. Better get my egg basket ready and warm up my favorite frying pan!

So I go and inspect the coop, stir the bedding, add a little extra, and check the nest box for disturbance. There does seem to have been some activity. I obviously need a webcam. Then I go over to where the object is and peer at it through the fence. From that angle I can see it more clearly.

And it's a little piece of foam insulation. The spray kind that you can use to plug holes and stuff.
