Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

6 eggs so far this morning! With the placement of a certain egg every morning I'm wondering if I have one that is laying while on the roost. All but that one was in the, I call it "box number 1" again and they had crushed one of the eggs. They ate the egg but left the squashed shell. The ducks are at either 20 or 21 weeks tomorrow so they are closer to being ready to lay I think. The silkies I bet don't lay until about week 25 or 26.

I have caught mine in the box laying several times now and they all have a very quiet egg song! The ones I have watched go into the trance and hum softly more then sing.

Ok I vote we eject JW.

( imagine the cat from shrek with the pouty face ) please don't eject me..... I have already eaten this morning so you don't have to feed me.....

Val's girls will probably all start laying at the same time and I'll still be limping along here with my one bird who lays when she feels like it.

JW if yours don't sing the eggsong you're lucky. I am kinda afraid my neighbors will complain about mine that scream at the top of their lungs after they lay an egg. Although this might not be a problem since Penny appears to be on strike and the rest are probably never going to lay an egg.

I'm certain to ruffle some feathers... but IMHO, there is only 1 NY football team. Buffalo Bills. the other 2 teams belong to NJ seeing as how that is where they have their stadium, & advertise things like Bell Telephone of NJ... although the Giants did have a tradition of holding training camp at SUNY Albany... they don't anymore. so

to both Jets and Giants.

start of day 1 of 3 off in a row, normal Sunday coming up, I think... I'm usually pretty tired from the whole week... but I have been productive - flock is fed, I am watching the sky for clearing before I release them. the bathroom is clean, just need to mop the floor - and I cleaned out all the bathroom cabinets - a full 13 gallon trash bag later, I have so much space! all those bottles with tiny bits left, tossed! all the stuff I thought I would use, but never ever have... tossed! so now I am sitting with my 3rd cup of coffee, Ruby snoring away on my lap, watching a bit of CBS News Sunday Morning. cheers!

9:30 and no egg from Penny (I've given up on an egg from anyone else) Really??? You lay 6 eggs in a row then take a day off and then you're taking another day off today? What do you think this is?
she started off more gung-ho than normal, and may take this day off... and maybe a few more, however, she is likely starting a more normal cycle of laying, where she will lay progressively later in the day, until she hits dark, those will become her normal Off day. remember, once there in a normal cycle, it takes roughly 25 hours to lay the egg... so she won't always lay first thing in the morning.

even when I had 13 roosters here, the hens always made more noise. while the peace and quiet would be punctuated by various crows, once one hen lays, everyone sings. everyone. even the boys. so as laying continues over the course of the day, the eggsong is the most often heard flock sound

Yeah I know I just kinda got used to the whole get up, collect egg routine. I'm mostly kidding about poor Penny. She worked her little tush off to give me 6 eggs in a row. It's just that I would like her to continue it, at least while no one else is laying.

Cheeka, my girls do the same thing. When one lays and starts singing, some of the others sing along with her. They can be quite loud at times.
