Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ok, here's your answer if they come a-knockin'. You started out with 6 because you figured a couple would turn out to be roosters, which you would get rid of. Imagine your *surprise* when they all were girls. You just couldn't bear to part with the 2 extra... Maybe they will take pity on you if it happens. Maybe it won't happen - my husband is always telling me to not worry about things that haven't happened.

This happened to me - I got 6 (which is allowed) and 2 were roosters.

My other neighbor was just telling me yesterday about her niece that lives a mile or so from us who got 5 checks figuring one would die or be a rooster. They all lived and are about 18 wks old now. Her jerk neighbor called ac on her and they came and found out she had 5 and they made her get rid of one THAT DAY. So...I am not too hopeful for mercy. :(

Val I predict an egg on sat!!!

Mortie here's hoping you don't have any issues. I agree 6 vs 4 is a very reasonable exception but know that nosy neighbors suck!

My nosy neighbor has seen me running around my backyard and came over today. Guess who's going to Zumba sat morning now???? Ugghhh it"ll be my first Zumba class. I have no rhythm but also no shame so I'm sure it'll he fun!

Is this not the cutest????

Thanks Clindz. About your baby roo - I doubt at 10 weeks he's fertilizing eggs. All eggs have a white spot on the yolk, if fertile it should look more like a bullseye. Lots pics around here. I'm sure you already knew that but I just can't believe at 10 weeks old he's fertilizing eggs already!

I'm tellin you. Egg on Val's coop floor tomorrow.

good thing they don't tell us how many we can have, i would really be in trouble, but i do have 3 achers and county says only need one so i am ok, i have never heard there was a amount. i have a friend don't even have an acher and she has 35. so i am cool, i live in chicken country, every block has them big chicken houses to raise for your dinner. i have just as much land as the people down the street with 3 of them big house on it. they do allenchickens around the block they do mountainaire chickens and then we have prudoe all over.

Yeah it seemed pretty early but it was just so striking that the few from today had a distinct white spot that wasn't on the others... But it's prob just my wishful thinking cause I need more chickens!!!! Ahhhh no I don't!

I'm back up to 28.

Sometimes you don't see the white spots because they're on the bottom side as they're in the bowl/ pan/whatever. Here is a pic if Penny's first egg. The white spot is there but it's not a bullseye. Good thing because if it was, she would have a lot of explaining to do. She had definitely not been around a roo!
