Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hang in there Hershy!  Sounds like the hormones are starting to flow and eggs are getting close.  If the pullet is undesiring of male attention, she can usually avoid it.  I've seen some of my little Serama hens reject the rooster (and being a gentleman, he's not overly pushy), and there are a couple that always submit.  All the eggs are fertile, however, so I know he's successfully doing his duty. :)

lol, I'm more concerned that the girls start doing THEIR duty! And Mortie is right, I am one day closer to them actually pooping out aomething edible ;)

I ate my first fresh tomato today. I was going to can all of them, but I made chicken salad, and decided to use one. Oh my gosh! I forgot how good a fresh tomato is!
My Dh is in his late fifties. I am more than twenty years younger. I get AARP and life insurance offers (for ppl over sixty) all the time!

Is anyone else excited? Starts tomorrow at 8! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I would totally be in on a calendar if you all would let me be. Every good chicken calendar needs a duck picture lol. My RSL's are kinda boring but my silkie cockerel is pretty cute!

Hi, can anyone help? I've got my first chickens - love them to bits, have 2 orphingtons and 2 Orpington cross. 1 friendly cockerel. I got them in April and they will be 6 months on the 1st of September... They're not laying eggs... Should they started by now??
Have 2 nest boxes and put fake eggs in already.

If you got them as wee chicks in April then I am afraid they will not be 6 months on September 1st, they will have had to have been a month old when you got them for that to be the case.

If they were over a month old when you got them, it's worth noting that orpies can take a little extra time to mature and start laying. Are they showing any signs of readiness? (A quick Google search will reveal these signs, me tapping them out on my phone will take forever and is not necessary, the info is out there). Do they free range? Are they perhaps laying them somewhere in your yard? Do they seem healthy? What are you feeding them? If you are feeding them a good diet and they seem healthy, I'm afraid there isn't much to do but keel waiting. Which can drive a person batty. Orps can take a little longer than some other breeds so you may have to wait a little longer than someone with, say, golden comets or something.
