Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm in shock! I got ZERO eggs today! Lol! I really need to go to the feed store in the morning to get feed and wormer.
Busy week here. The little girls had well child checkups on Monday and the other 2 had them today. They tested my son for ADHD today. He is considered borderline based on the questionnaire but she feels like he is just not challenged enough in class and gets bored. She said that as long as he does well in school we won't really worry about it. I have to talk to his teacher about things that might help him stay focused and challenge him. My oldest daughter has some anxiety issues. Other than that everyone is great!

With the storm we are having, the eggs may be floating down the creek....

My youngest is 15 and manages to keep the boredom down. She hates her history class but the grade stays high in that class. Her logic is that she does not want to go through a class again so she does her best--which as been straight As so far.

Smart alec!

Soggy and miserable here too! But it was nicer today and the sun even came out. I have 2 new layers, both RIRs. Found 2 pullet eggs on Momma's chair on the back porch! I added 8 RIR girls last spring, and they are just starting to lay

The white leghorns started way before them. Now waiting on the BRs lol! 2 more weeks and the days should start to get longer, come onnnn spring!

I found a pullet egg yesterday but have no idea who to expect to have laid it....I really want to get a camera in the coop so maybe I can catch them in the act! Ratchet killed another one of the young roosters the day before yesterday. It disappeared before I could get out there to bury it. I'm really not sure what to do about him. He kills a chicken or two every once in a while, but the Huskies have not been here since he has been outside. Do I just deal with the occasional chicken he kills or rehome him and worry that the Huskies come back and kill every chicken I have. I'm not sure exactly what to do. I have tried working with him with the chickens but he NEVER bothers them if we are outside. And I know that it's a risk I take with free ranging......

Our farm dogs bothered the chickens for two reasons. Fuzzy chicks were eaten as hors d'oeuvres

, and when two cockerels fought violently, the fight was stopped permanently by a dog. Maybe Ratchet is culling cockerels for you? Less than ideal, I know, but maybe something triggers him- fighting, mating, running&flapping... that you can train out. Can you teach him to herd the flock? Hahaha, yes I know, just what you want to do with all your copious amounts of spare time!

For what it's worth, he is also protecting your kids and other pets from those Huskies.

I'm really not sure what exactly is his trigger. He has gone after cockerels, pullets and hens. The only ones I have never seen him look sideways at are the golden comets. As far as I can tell it seems to be the "newer" flock members be it chicks or pullets that arrived this past year.
Gross factor warning!

What is even weirder is that he tends to eat them.
Even if I bury them he will dig them up and after a day or two he has them eaten. He's also hunted rabbits and brought them home to eat. And no we aren't starving him! Lol. He is the most quirky dog I have ever met. I can't touch him anymore but hubby can do whatever he wants. We have him on the underground fence now so the chickens can get next to the coop and be safe from him.... not sure what else to do.

Lindz, that you can't touch him is a bigger warning sign than killing the chickens. Is he trustworthy around the kids? If he's bred from working stock, he's probably bored and turned to hunting to fill the need. Maybe you can find him a good home with someone who has larger livestock.

X2.... Ratchet is a heeler??

It has been crazy bust at work. I really missed this thread. We are still in the process of putting the tree up and I still need to do the gift shopping. The problem is... I cant remember where the gifts are hidden.

I am also going to make cinnamon almonds this weekend, plus go to the company party ( 50% less workers. they keep quitting and not rehiring) and it is DHs birthday, so... off to the Casino we go. I am then going to attempt zucchini bread.

Rump is good, but Little Bit is indecisive about where to sleep at night. I decided to turn the heat lamp off and when I checked on Rumples, she was huddled in the corner in a tight ball alone. I put her in her sleeping box and surrounded her with straw. The heat lamp is back on.
Rain.... rain.... rain.....

Yes he is a heeler. The kids don't want anything to do with him anymore because he does tend to jump on them and nip heels. I would definitely not say that he wouldn't bite although he hasn't tried actually biting anyone. Honestly, I wish my dad had never brought him here. My dad never thinks stuff through and then other people have to deal with the mess. I had originally planned to get a LGD when we get goats eventually. I'm really trying to figure out what the best thing to do is......
