you could get lucky and start to find eggs in the next 2 weeks but I bet you'll wait for some til 28 weeks, maybe 30. we'd love to see some pics of your flock

beak smackin' good! it's mackerel... a nice protein packed treat for everyone, but Lilac in particular... cuz she's a layin' now

pizza qualifies as beak smackin' good too!

we got snow this afternoon, just a nuisance storm, but it did cancel free range. so I made a party for them

just look at those bird brains plotting the best way to get their beaks on all of it at once...! I know better than to walk in there with treats held at a normal height level... I've had entire platters dumped by these monsters! Wilma has the best expression...

Hey all, hope you had a fab Christmas! Still haven't had any gifts from Peggy and Selma though :/ However The older girls have not disappointed!
I got an egg spiral that is fabulous for Christmas.

Hello?... Anybody out there? Hope everyone is okay.

It's getting colder here. Starting to feel like winter. We've even had frost a few times. I know, I know, big deal when some of you will be plowing through massive snowdrifts. Supposed to get below freezing (the 20s!) tomorrow night, so I'm planning to string an extension cord up to the back and put a heat lamp in the bantam coop. The Seramas have been fine down into the 30s, but I don't want to push it with them.

No eggs from the big girls. I'm not even going to worry about it until Feb.

Still haven't decided where to put the 3 pullets that are now quite big. They are very docile and went into the bantam coop to check things out. One of the Serama hens tried to make them leave, then the Silkie joined in, but it was the tiny cockerel that did the convincing. Thinking I will fence off part of the bantams' run so they can become friends, for sure when it rains next. Getting old keeping them in the garage!
