Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

My birthday is next week so for this week at least I'm not older.

Crabby for sure though. I don't know i was really tired this afternoon and tried to take a nap and I never really fell asleep and I got up all cranky.

Happy almost birthday, mortie! Mine was this week, so I'm already older.

Does anybody have really noisy hens? My Welsummer was squawking up a storm most of the day. Egg song off and on for hours! Checked 4 or 5 times to see if she had any real problems. Nothing. No egg. More noise.

Tried some treats for distraction. She started back up again as soon as it was all gone. Chased her out into the yard. 15 mins later she's back at it in the coop. Oh the noise noise noise noise!

Go to all this trouble getting rid of roosters to keep peace with the neighbors only to have Yelly Nelly screaming all day. She finally stopped for what seemed like good (about 20 mins) only to shriek her way out of the coop and out into the yard around 5 pm. Son went to check... lo and behold... an egg! And peace returned to the land. Luckily the sensitive neighbor was gone for most of the day.

Thankfully she doesn't do this every day. Once or twice a month, but that's enough. Maybe she was celebrating the last day of winter.

Anyone else have a Yelly-Nelly?

YES.

2 of my ameracaunas have the MOST undignified peacock shriek of an eggsong. It sounds like a peacock and a goose had a baby and the baby wants to scream at the top of its lungs. I have tried to record it but they always stop as soon as I open the back door.

I'm really afraid it's going to make my neighbors angry....

Happy early Birthday Mortie!

I definitely have a Nelly Yelly. When Penny lays or any of the other girls lay, she sings up a storm. I also go and check to make sure nothing is wrong. She is also my most vocal hen....clucks a lot, which I love.

Happy Belated Birthday W4W! and Happy Early Birthday mortie!!

I have a backyard full of Yelly Nelly's! all it takes is one to sing and the whole entire flock sounds off. 54 screaming peacocks. the boys get going and forget about it. it's not stopping for a good 15 minutes and if someone else drops an egg, there is no break in the song. my only neighbor doesn't mind but she does like to tell me what time the boys start crowing in the morning. usually about 4:30... I'm sleeping about 60' away and I can't hear them. she's a good quarter mile away from the pens and yet... she hears them, but she's nosy, so ...

I thought I posted pics yesterday morning, must have been a dream. I'll post later, I have a much shorter day today!

My hens are much louder than my rooster. And my rooster is awesome. He doesn't start crowing til 6:00 and then it's in the coop for a couple if rounds. Maybe 1 or 2 crows throughout the day.

I had one rooster that would crow all day and as soon as I let him out would run across the yard and crow directly outside the bedroom window. I didn't need neighbors to tell me he was obnoxious!

Happy belated bday w4w!

Happy early bday Mortie!
