Yes!

If not now, put it into a ziplock bag and into the fridge. You should use it in a day or two.

It is common for soft shelled eggs at first and after a molt. The egg factory is not fully functioning yet but it will start up. The next egg should have a shell.

I have already been told that it's OKto eat and the egg ffactory just wasn't at full production mode yet.
But I'm so excited eggs are a coming, now if I could just get them in the nesting boxes that would be great!

yah...i saw after I posted ...LOL....mine didn't go in the boxes at first, most of the time they laid on the floor of the coop, I was like "really?" comfy soft boxes and you girls want to lay on the floor...fine lay where you want to....then they started laying in the boxes...LOL....murphy's law!

Congratulations Karl on your first egg. If that egg was laid by a BR like Roger you might want to take it to a taxidermist. But most chickens are normal and I expect you will have no problems.

Update:.....my other chick didn't make it out of the shell alive. Got late and I went to bed expecting to find it hatched in the morning. It was able to zip the shell all the way around but not the membrane. So I was in the situation of having a single chick.....not good says everybody.......they are flock animals.......so I called a guy who said he could set me up with a companion bird.......GREAT!!!.....went over to pick up the chick......and now all SIX of them are getting along just fine......DONT LAUGH.......it can happen to you too.
